Co-op Academy Woodlands recognised for its inclusive culture in Good Ofsted
Co-op Academy Woodlands, in Leeds, received a ‘continues to be Good’ result in all 5 areas of their September inspection: The Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management and Early Years Provision.
The report commends the school for its welcoming and inclusive culture where everybody “wants the very best for the pupils.” Ofsted said:
“There are many different ethnicities and cultures at the school. The pupils have a healthy appreciation of diversity and equality. A pupil captured the essence of diversity saying, 'the world would be a dull place if everyone was the same'.”
Ofsted praised the school’s curriculum for ensuring pupils’ are ‘keen, interested and inquisitive’ and that ‘they enjoy being active learners’:
“The school uses its ‘character’ curriculum to teach pupils what good behaviour looks like. This curriculum enables pupils to practise the school's expectations.”
The report also acknowledges the efforts taken by staff to support pupils who speak English as an additional language (EAL):
“There is a rigorous process to support these pupils to learn the essential words and phrases that allow them to function independently.”
Headteacher, Adele Clark, said: “I am incredibly pleased with the outcome. I feel it is a good reflection and recognises the hard work and dedication of ‘Team Woodlands’.
