Children’s Mental Health Week
Place2Be launched the first-ever Children’s Mental Health Week in 2015. The week exists to empower, equip and give a voice to every child in the UK - childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk
The week commenced on 5-11 February and many of our academies have been shining a light on the importance of mental health during the week. This year's theme is 'My Voice Matters'.
The Co-op Academies Trust Community Team hosted a Wellbeing and Self-Esteem Workshop at Co-op Academy Friarswood. The primary pupils were joined by Redan, a children’s magazine publisher, who are also a supplier to Co-op. The nursery and reception classes enjoyed an exciting day with wellbeing workshops based around children’s characters, including Peppa Pig, Paddington, Paw Patrol and Duggee from 'Hey Duggee'! The children learnt from Duggee about different emotions and how we recognise them. Emotional literacy is an essential part of growing up, and learning about other people’s feelings helps us all to empathise, appreciate and support each other.
Attending the workshop was Co-op’s Community and Member Participation Team whose strong relationship with the Trust’s Community Team is ensuring that there are many more opportunities like this offered to academies.
Matt Linley-Simon, Academy Community Pioneer at the school, said: “A lovely, lively day. The children in both classes had a fabulous time and learned a great deal. The resources were perfectly suited to both the task and the year group. A pleasure to have such a good collaboration!”
