Trust-wide Spelling Bee 2025

Pupils from 28 academies from across Co-op Academies Trust came together at Co-op’s Headquarters, 1 Angel Square to compete in the annual Trust Spelling Bee.
This is the third year running the competition, led by the Trust’s English Director, Hannah Lilley, which provides a fantastic opportunity for students to meet fellow peers from across the Trust and have a fun, challenging spelling competition.
It’s a great experience for young people to develop their confidence, practise public speaking skills and to thrive under pressure!
This year, 28 teams from both primary and secondary gathered for the event and the standard of spelling was excellent.
English Director at Co-op Academies Trust, Hanna Lilley, said:
“It was a fantastic day at our third and biggest yet annual Spelling Bee. We saw 28 teams from Years 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 compete to be crowned Spelling Bee champions.
“Our finalists were asked to spell really tricky words such as effervescent, lugubrious, mellifluous and the audience’s favourite - defenestration.
“It was fantastic to see everyone involved show such a love for language and have tremendous courage to perform under pressure in front of peers from across the Trust. A huge well done to everyone who took part.”
