Co-op Academies Trust colleague awarded MBE in New Year's Honours list

Ruth Agnew, Chief People and Governance Officer for Co-op Academies Trust, has been recognised in The King’s New Year’s Honours List for her services to education. 

Announced last week, Ruth will receive the prestigious title of Member of the British Empire (MBE) alongside individuals across the UK who have made profound impacts within their communities.

Among the recipients are renowned public figures and honourees that represent the unsung heroes of society who have dedicated their lives to service.

Ruth’s work within Co-op Academies Trust has had a transformative effect on schools across Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Merseyside where she has been committed to fostering collaboration and improving educational standards. As Chief People and Governance Officer, Ruth has played a pivotal role in ensuring that the Trust maintains strong governance and a culture of inclusivity and excellence.

Her recognition at being awarded a MBE reflects her unwavering dedication to improving educational opportunities for young people and her significant contributions to the broader educational community.

"It was a great surprise and honour to receive the news about my MBE,” said Ruth.

“I've been privileged to work as a school governor and to support governance within the education sector for a long time and within Co-op Academies Trust for the last five years.

“It's great to achieve recognition for my role as a governance professional and I look forward to continuing the fantastic work we are doing within the Trust to develop governance practice to ensure our academies provide the best possible educational experiences for children and young people. It's a real privilege to be a part of that, and to be recognised in this way is entirely unexpected but very much appreciated."

The King’s New Year’s Honours List, compiled with recommendations from the Prime Minister, senior ministers and public nominations are given to people who make outstanding contributions to their community and the country, with more than 1,200 people in the UK being recognised this year.
