Co-op Academy Manchester gets a VIP visit to its Eco Club

Stephen Morgan MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary in the Department for Education, paid a special visit to Co-op Academy Manchester recently to see the progress of its Eco Club.

During his visit, Morgan met with Eco Club students, who shared their work and spoke about transforming the school’s outdoor areas into vibrant, nature-rich environments.

The MP was given a tour of the academy’s green areas where students shared their experiences and achievements in the Eco Club. Led by Mr. Simpson from the Science Department, the club meets twice a week after school, with students dedicating their time to planting native trees, building wildlife habitats and fostering biodiversity through sustainable practices.

The MP praised the club, commending the students for their commitment to environmental stewardship.

"I've loved my visit to Co-op Academy Manchester today, seeing first hand all the amazing things the students have been doing with their Nature Park funding. From a self-sustaining wildflower meadow to a green wall that has helped lower the temperature of an overheating technology classroom, this school shows how involved students have been in their programme in the past year."

Co-op Academy Manchester’s Eco Club is a student-led initiative dedicated to creating green spaces and enhancing biodiversity across the academy’s grounds. It was created as part of a larger national effort under the National Education Nature Park programme - a collaboration between the Department for Education, the Natural History Museum, the Royal Horticultural Society, and other partners.

Co-op Academy Manchester has also featured as a case study on the National Education Nature Park. Find out more here
