Co-op Academy Failsworth fundraise for Barnardo's

Co-op Academy Failsworth has raised £249.80 for Barnardo's.

Co-op and Barnardo’s have joined forces with the goal of raising £5 million over the next two and a half years to support 750,000 young people. These funds will be directed towards providing essential needs such as access to food, mental wellbeing support and opportunities for future growth and development.

Supporting this initiative is Co-op Academy Failsworth, who have demonstrated commitment to the cause through a series of fundraising events. They held a staff vs student Bike Challenge, where they took turns pedalling to raise funds and see how far they could collectively cycle.

The school also held a football tournament with 13 teams competing in a 7-a-side contest. With an entry fee of £1 per person, participants and spectators alike contributed to the fundraising efforts. Separate tournaments were held for different year groups, ensuring inclusive participation and a fun day for all.

Further fundraising efforts included an Easter Egg Challenge, where students designed Easter Eggs! The winning designs earned students’ vouchers, adding an element of friendly competition to the activities.

Headteacher, Phill Quirk, said:

"We are thrilled to have played a part in supporting Co-op and Barnardo’s in their mission to empower young people. The success of our fundraising events is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our staff, students, and community members."

Community Engagement Officer for Co-op Academy Failsworth, Jack Ryan, said:

"Staff and Students have had a fantastic time helping to raise money for Barnardo’s , in partnership with Co-op. Barnardo’s and the Co-op are looking to raise £5m in the next two years to support young people like our students which I think is amazing and will have such a positive impact on our community."
