Maths Olympics 2025

Secondary students from across Co-op Academies Trust put their mathematical skills to the test at the Maths Olympics.
Students from Years 7 and 8 from Co-op Academies Bebington, Failsworth, Grange, Leeds, Manchester, North Manchester, Priesthorpe, Stoke, Swinton and Walkden gathered at 1 Angel Square on Thursday, 27th February to go head-to-head in our inter-school maths competition.
In teams of four, students competed in a series of challenging rounds designed to test problem-solving, teamwork and logical thinking. The maths Directors and maths graduates were also on hand to support throughout the day - even dressing up to break up the tension!
The day began with the Group Task, testing collaboration and mathematical reasoning where students worked together to answer as many questions as possible.
Next came the Shuffle Round, a fast-paced challenge requiring quick calculations.
After lunch, students were pushed to think critically and solve a complex problem with incomplete clues during the Logic Round before finishing off the day with a high-energy Relay Round.
The results:
Round 1 Winner: Co-op Academy Swinton
Round 2 Winner: Co-op Academy Walkden
Round 3 Winner: Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent
Round 4 Winner: Co-op Academy Priesthorpe
After an exciting day of competition, Co-op Academy Walkden emerged as the overall winners with Co-op Academy Swinton securing the runner-up spot.
Organiser and Specialist Executive Maths Teacher, Natalie Wright, said: "We had 10 academies in attendance and the buzz in the room was electric. The students were on task and competed with determination in a bid to be crowned the Maths Olympics champions for 2025!
“The staff really got involved and the Maths Graduates alongside the maths Directors worked together to keep the day running smoothly. Thanks to all involved and I'm already looking forward to 2026!"
