Co-op Academy Medlock join our Trust

Co-op Academy Medlock, formerly Medlock Primary School on Wadeson Road, has joined our community focussed Trust.

The Trust, which operates across the North of England, works across several different regions including Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Merseyside. The Trust already has 9 academies and 1 college in Greater Manchester, most of which are Good or Outstanding.

Dr Chris Tomlinson, CEO of Co-op Academies Trust, said:

“We’re delighted to have Co-op Academy Medlock join our Trust and add to our network of Manchester academies. We strongly believe, as an education charity, in having clusters of schools regionally that can support and challenge each other, working cooperatively together. We’re thrilled to welcome Co-op Academy Medlock and Headteacher Jonathan, his staff, pupils and parents to the Co-op family. And believe they’ll fit perfectly with our co-operative values and principles.”

Jonathan Brown, Headteacher at Co-op Academy Medlock, said:

“We are immensely proud to have joined such a supportive and community-driven trust. In the short time we have been working with the trust, we have been impressed with their knowledge, professionalism and commitment. We are very happy to be starting the next chapter of the school’s story with Co-op Academies by our side. ”

Co-op Academy Medlock opened under its new name on 1st January 2024. Changes to uniform and signage will be phased in over the coming months and no parent or carer will be out of pocket by the change of name.

Founded in 2010, Co-op Academies Trust has 33 academies across the North of England, the majority of which are considered Good or Outstanding by Ofsted. The Trust is founded on Co-operative principles, believing that by creating great schools, they support communities. The Trust’s sponsor is the Co-op Group, who support the Trust as part of their commitment to community development.
