The Co-op Academies Trust, which runs four secondary schools across Greater Manchester, today signed up its first primary in the area.

The Co-op Academies Trust, which runs four secondary schools across Greater Manchester, today signed up its first primary in the area.

Broadhurst Primary School in Moston is the latest to join the  academies trust run by one of the UK’s biggest businesses.

Jan Gough, Headteacher at the school, said “It’s very exciting to be the first primary school in Greater Manchester to join the Co-op. They have a proven track record of supporting and improving schools.”

“We’re all looking forward to working with the other Manchester secondary schools and all the other schools supported by the Co-op”

The school, which will be known as Co-op Academy Broadhurst is the latest to join the rapidly growing Trust, following a £3.6m investment by the Co-op group earlier in the year.

Frank Norris, Director of the Co-op Academies Trust, said “I’m delighted to welcome Co-op Academy Broadhurst to our Trust.

“Our aim is to increase the number of children benefiting from our unique educational offer so that we can play a significant role in helping to drive up standards. We have shown that Co-op values and principles are highly effective in driving positive culture and behaviour and I am confident that Broadhurst will benefit from our unique approach.”

Changes to uniform and signage will be phased in over the coming months and no parent or carer will be out of pocket by the change of name.
