Co-op Academy Leeds rated Good by Ofsted

Co-op Academy Leeds has achieved a Good Ofsted report in their December inspection

Co-op Academy Leeds has achieved a Good Ofsted report in their December inspection, after being recognised that it had ‘improved rapidly’ across the school. Credited to the hard work and commitment of leaders, teachers, staff and students, students now feel a ‘sense of pride’ according to the report.

Previously graded as ‘Requires Improvement’ in 2019, the school has now been judged ‘Good’ in all 4 inspection areas:

  • The Quality of Education
  • Behaviour and Attitudes
  • Personal Development
  • Leadership and Management

The Ofsted report states students are: ‘proud to be part of a diverse community’ where ‘all backgrounds are valued’ and ‘pupils respect each other because leaders ensure that all pupils see themselves represented in the curriculum and activities that are planned.’

CEO of Co-op Academies Trust, Dr Chris Tomlinson, says:

“The respect for diversity at Co-op Academy Leeds has paved the way for a rich celebration of culture within their curriculum. Co-op Academy Leeds’ focus on inclusion and respect is fantastic, and reflects an individual approach where every child really does matter. A massive congratulations to Natalie and her team who have transformed the school as well as the community.”

The report recognises the incredible achievement made in three years, with one pupil saying ‘it is all about our education at this school’. Leaders at the school ‘work hard to improve behaviour’, ensuring students feel safe and in turn allowing teachers to focus on the curriculum. Teachers and leaders have developed an inclusive and representative curriculum, ensuring topics covered are relevant to the background of the students.

Headteacher at Co-op Academy Leeds, Natalie Jones, says:

“We are delighted that the hard work and commitment of staff and students has been recognised. I am incredibly proud to lead such a diverse school to the first ‘Good’ rating in the school’s history. This validation from Ofsted will allow the school to further grow and improve.”
