Last week, as part of their Christmas celebrations, Co-op Academy Nightingale took part in a whole school charity run to raise money for homeless charity, Simon on the Streets

Decked out in Christmas outfits the whole school ran, walked or moved however they could around the school grounds for half an hour.

“We decided to do this run for Simon on the Streets after the passing of a much loved colleague. Simon on the Streets was very close to his heart and we wanted to do this in his honour.

“The work they do is so important, and we hope this is the beginning of a meaningful relationship. The pupils really enjoyed supporting each other, so lovely to see them encouraging each other to succeed together for such an important cause”

– Rose Ahmet, Year 6 Teacher and Academy Mental Health Champion

They raised over £400, donated by the school community. All of this money will go to Simon on the Streets to support homeless and vulnerable people in Leeds, Bradford and Kirklees over the Christmas period.

“It was a spectacular sight to behold of all of our children and staff in Santa hats running around frosty fields and walking around chilly playgrounds.

“It was the first whole school event of many where we will be raising money and awareness of such an important charity as ‘Simon on the Street’. Another day in which I felt immensely proud to be the Headteacher of Co-op Academy Nightingale.”

Philip Pearce, Headteacher at Co-op Academy Nightingale

“Thank you to all the students who took part in the Elf Run to help support Simon on the Streets and the homeless community of Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield, it was lovely to see everyone taking part and getting involved on the day.

“The money raised is fantastic, we couldn’t do what we do without kind donations such as these from the students at Co-op Academy Nightingale, and we are so grateful for their continued support.”

– Fay Williams, Corporate and Community Fundraiser for Simon on the Streets
