Working together for Apprentice Partnership success

We recently celebrated the first year of Reach, our unique Trust led career program.

We recently celebrated the first year of Reach, our unique Trust led career program. It brings local businesses and academies together to address social mobility, develop key employability skills and prepare students for the world of work.

Following on from that success Co-op Academy Bebington took part a new apprenticeship programme after being approached by Co-op Property. They partnered with Link Contracting and Wirral Met College to provide work experience placements, employability skills workshops and apprenticeships

As a direct result of this collaboration two students were selected for apprenticeships with Link Contracting. Year 13 James and Year 11 Jacob started their Level 3 Electrical Installation apprenticeships in August 2021.

“We are very proud to have been part of the brand new apprentice partnership programme this year with Co-op Property, Co-op Academy Bebington and Wirral Met College. Apprenticeships are a vital part of our pipeline of new and young talent into the business and something we have supported for many years.

The value of an apprenticeship is two-fold. For the apprentice, they are gaining valuable on the job training as well as accredited learning and development that is relevant to their career choice. For the employer, apprenticeships represent real value for money and a cost-effective investment in resource planning and retention”- Simon Jones, Director of People & Safety, Link Contracting

Apprenticeships give students the opportunity to learn, gain qualifications and get paid at the same time. They are a great option for young people who are looking for a practical further education option.

“I found out about the apprenticeship through the careers adviser and thought it was a great opportunity. Since starting in August I’ve really enjoyed the apprenticeship and I am looking forward to the future”- James Reid

“I found out about the apprenticeship by the career advisor at school who organised a meeting to find out more details. When I heard all about it I knew it was something I wanted to apply for so my careers advisor helped me with my letter of application and my CV.

I’m loving the apprenticeship, especially the practical side – it’s going well and I’m learning lots first hand from the experts. College is also going well as it helps with the theory” – Jacob Morris

“Our students are entitled to know about all of their post 16 and post 18, options available to them so they can make informed decisions at key transition points.

Apprenticeships are growing in popularity and are an exciting option. There are literally hundreds of apprenticeships to choose from, Level 2 (equal to GCSEs) to Level 7 (equal to a masters degree). For some this is an ideal route for them as they earn whilst they learn.

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study so students get real hands-on experience and multiple opportunities to put their skills into practice”- Jo Sykes, Director of CEIAG

As Director of CEIAG, Jo Sykes supports all of our academies across their Careers provision. This year she has worked on several employability projects and launched Reach, with a particular focus on helping students who benefit from a non-conventional education to employment pathway.
