Sky donate over 1000 books to help impact book poverty
A huge drop of over 1000 books has just made its way to two primary schools in our Trust, thanks to generous donations from staff at Sky, and the brilliant work of the Children’s Book Project.
Co-op Academy Nightingale and Co-op Academy Brierley, in West Yorkshire, received a total of 1022 books on 17 April.
The children are thrilled to discover a book ‘hut’ with a fantastic selection of books available to access for the rest of the school term.
The Children’s Book Project redistributes thousands of new and gently used books to children across the UK, helping children unlock their imaginations and build their vocabulary. To date, they’ve gifted over 1 million books to schools, prisons, community groups and food banks.
“Thousands of children grow up in homes with very few books of their own, sometimes none at all. They have fewer opportunities to lose themselves in a story, for shared reading with a parent and to discover the world.” -
Sky staff were keen to see the project through from start to finish, and came along on the day to drop the books themselves.

“We were overjoyed to be part of the journey from collecting and sorting books to delivering them to Co-op Academy Nightingale and Co-op Academy Brierley. Every step of the process, from gathering donations to witnessing the children's excitement, filled us with immense happiness. Seeing the direct impact of our efforts, alongside the dedication of the Children’s Book Project and the enthusiastic support of Sky, was truly rewarding.”
Lisa Wilson, Regional Community Development Manager at Co-op Academies Trust, first made contact with the charity in 2023 and hopes to continue working with them to coordinate other Academy deliveries in the very near future.
Following the drop, Lisa said:
